Meet Mary
My forays into writing began at a young age: buried in a big black box up in my attic, I still keep a few pieces of grade school "nature" poetry that my parents saved for the sake of posterity. Thankfully, as the years went by, I decided to turn my attention to fiction, thus sparing the sensibilities of many gentle and unsuspecting readers! Books have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a young woman, whenever I wasn't in tap or ballet class, playing the flute or piano, enacting a role on the stage of our local community theater, or interacting with any of my six sisters (yes, I'm the sixth of seven daughters in our family - no boys!), I was reading - books and stories of all kinds, but particularly romances. Drawn by the intense emotions, vivid descriptions, and happy-ever-after endings penned by my favorite authors, I decided early on that I, too, wanted to write powerful stories that might wend their way into readers' hearts. It took quite a while for that dream to become reality, however. I first pursued a different career path, studying at the University of Leningrad in the former USSR and completing my undergraduate degrees in Russian and English from the University of Rochester, with the intent to work in the area of national security. Fortunately, I realized within a short time that my calling lay elsewhere, and so I turned to my love of books for inspiration, earning my Master's degree in English Literature from the State University of New York at Albany, and eventually becoming an English teacher and a romance writer. Currently, I live in upstate New York with my husband and our two children, teaching by day and writing at night (or in the early morning hours!) - and enjoying the thrill of weaving my romantic tales, creating worlds where justice always prevails, and where love does indeed conquer all.
